Celebrating 60 years of Service to the Community

“The Early Days”
KRMO AM 990 began broadcasting with seven employees in August of 1950 from facilities at 1569 N. Central, Monett, MO. KRMO was started by Lloyd C. McKenney and John J. Daly, engineers, who owned Carthage Broadcasting Company. They also owned stations in Carthage (KDMO since 1947), then later in West Plains, MO and Fort Scott, Kansas. The FCC issued the construction permit on May 18, 1950. Ground was broken on a 30’ X 40’ frame structure that same week. The building was originally built so that it could be changed into a 2-bedroom house in case the radio station didn’t work out. Carder Construction Company of Carthage had the contract for construction and Henry Olson of Monett also furnished building supplies.
